Original Abstract
One of the most important sources of insulating material degradation is the partial discharge generation process. It is therefore essential to study the effect of thermal and voltage aging on the characteristics of partial discharges in insulators intended for high-temperature applications. In this paper, a high-temperature material called thermikanit 26.000 is studied. It was subject to thermal aging at 320 ºC for 500 hours and, subsequently, voltage aging at AC voltages ranging from 3 kV to 5 kV, the exposure times having varied from 20 to 280 hours. To study the partial discharges, a ramp voltage was applied to the specimens, and to characterize the partial discharges occurring in the specimens, the time mean value of narrow-band noise at a band-centre frequency of 390 Hz and an effective band width of 14 Hz, was selected. This characteristic appears to depend strongly on the exposure type and duration.
