Original Abstract
In this paper, reliability-constrained optimal beam design problem is formulated. The corresponding mathematical model involves ODE-type constraints, which are modelled by finite element method. The constraints concerning reliability are reformulated using binary variables and a traditional scenario-based approach. To obtain a solution to this problem an algorithm combining a specialized genetic algorithm and an interiorpoint method was developed. Results for various interesting test cases are presented.
