Original Abstract

This paper is focused on design of visual inspection system for continuous defect detection on metal strip. Demands for quality of metal products are steadily increasing. To fulfil most of them the system should provide means to detect defects as small as 0.1 mm2 at speeds up to 2000 m/min. The document describes the key components for a design of such a system, e.g. different types of illumination (bright field, transmitted, specular, etc.), cameras, processing units, and also information concerning installation and maintenance of a system. In the end the results and examples ofdefects are given, followed by an overview of system features.
