Original Abstract

The paper is based on the assumption that metaphors are expression of implicit leadership theories. This relationship has not yet been investigated in depth, although some country-based studies of the GLOBE project referred to typical cultural metaphors for leadership. The authors try to initiate a discussion about the relation between metaphors and universally as well as culturally endorsed implicit leadership theories. Main assumptions are that ccognitive processes like implicit theories about leader and follower attributes, leader behavior or leadership processes are important for understanding managerial leadership behavior in CEE countries. Widely neglected aspect of management behavior in countries in transition is adrressed: metaphors of leadership as special culturally endorsed verbal expressions for implicit leadership theories.
