Original Abstract

In general, Broadband over Power-Line (BPL) systems can be used as a replacement of WIFI or LAN routers. The main advantage is deployment in places where there are no possibilities to install other communication technologies using additional communication wires or in places with poor conditions for radio transmissions. Nowadays, BPL devices use e.g. network extender which fully replaces ethernet interface thanks to high communication speed on application layer. BPL is also used as a backhaul on medium voltage for Smart Grids and also BPL is being deployed on smart meters to provide high performance. Several standards and recommendations for this technology have emerged. This paper deals with the measurement of the maximal throughput of two available BPL devices, HomePlug AV2 compliant with two topologies, using measurement methodology RFC 6349, RFC 2544, TCP Throughput and iPerf.
