Original Abstract
Microalgae and red yeast extracts contain a broad spectrum of compounds, which could serve as an alternative to conventional nutrient sour-ce. Moreover, the extracts contain antioxidants and can provide nutrition and protection of the skin.Presented work aims at preparation and characterization of liposome particles with complex aqueous and oil extracts of microbial origin. Active compounds as well as antioxidant activity and SPF were determined by HPLC and spectrophotometry. Most promising extracts were packed into liposome and PHB-liposome particles. Prepared particles were characterized by their encapsulation efficiency, particle size and poly-dispersity index together with colloidal stability. Antimicrobial activity was tested against S. epidermidis and E. coli. Prepared extracts and particles were evaluated by MTT assay on human keratinocytes HaCaT cell line whether they alter cell viability.Micro- and nanoparticles with encapsulated antioxidant and antimicrobial active compounds can enhance the effectiveness of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. In this work, the potential use of liposome particles with natural microbial extracts in appropriate concentration was proposed. Liposomes regardless PHB enrichment are stable with desired properties and suitable for further application in cosmetics as well as in the food industry.
