Original Abstract
This paper aims at the characterization of a narrow rectangular groove on a perfectly electrically conducting plane. Relying on the time-domain electromagnetic field scattered by the groove, a new solution approach to solve the inverse problem is presented. The proposed methodology combines semi–analytical formulas to compute the induced voltage across the groove with the power and robustness of stochastic optimization methods. Five optimization methods are compared in the paper. Overall, the Particle Swarm Optimization proves to be the most efficient one.
