Original Abstract
During thermal treatment of municipal and industrial wastes, a number of objectionable and harmful compounds are generated. These harmful compounds must be removed from off-gases by application of mechanical and chemical cleaning processes. The contact of polluted gas with alkaline agent is used for collection and removal of acid gaseous compounds (especially SO2, HCl and HF) to a level determined by the corresponding regulations valid for emissions from waste incinerators. Acid gaseous compounds are generated by combustion of sulphur and halogenide substances. The contact between polluted gas and suitable agent is usually achieved by absorption processes.Wet scrubbers have found wide spread use in cleaning contaminated gas streams because of their ability to effectively remove both particulate and gaseous pollutants.Very often the Venturi type scrubbers are used.
