Original Abstract
Biotransformation of ferulic acid (FA) is a process where microorganisms, such as bacteria or fungi, modify chemical compounds. FA is a phenolic compound present in various plants that offers numerous health benefits, including anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. FA can be obtained from lignocellulosis waste materials. During microbial biotransformation of FA, various high-value derivatives such as vanillic acid, vanillylalcohol, vanillin or 4-vinylguaiacol can be obtained from ferulic acid. These derivates exhibit different properties and have potential in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries. The use of extremophilic bacteria for the biotransformation of ferulic acid holds promise in the production of novel and valuable compounds with potential therapeutic applications.
