Original Abstract
For decades, it has been a general trend in industries to develop new products which do not cause damage to the environment. In civil engineering specifically, since the end of the 20th century there has been a significant increase in demand for natural materials which put only minimal strain on the environment. Whether that means obtaining raw materials, the production technology itself or the final function in a structure. It is also necessary to take into account recycling or utilising at the end of its service life. From this perspective, it appears ideal to use natural fibrous materials which were widely used in the past. Buildings with such materials are still in existence and they still perform their thermal insulation and protective function very well. They are most commonly encountered as thermal insulation materials or plaster reinforcement. This paper deals with the development of thermal insulation plasters using natural fibres. They are beneficial for the society in terms of energy savings during heating of buildings and also in terms of their positive influence on the environment. These plasters were designed with regard to their environmental impact. Next to traditional materials, less common material sources were used in order to reduce the environmental footprint of the final products. The goal was to design suitable mixtures with subsequent examination of their basic physical, thermal insulation and mechanical properties including the study of their hygrothermal behaviour.
