Original Abstract

The advancement in phasor measurement technology brings new opportunities to improve the performance of applications that use wide area measurements. Most of these applications rely on simulation studies results. As a result, modelling and testing of PMUs are of high interest among electrical engineers and designers. In this paper, a PMU model based on discrete Fourier transform is presented and examined according to the measurement compliance in IEEE Std. C37.118.1 -2011. The model is implemented in PSCAD library. The results showed that the performance of this model has many advantages on the existing FFT block to monitor the phasor in PSCAD simulation environment. This model is expected to be used for simulation studies for testing and designing applications which use wide area synchrophasor measurements.
