Original Abstract

This technology uses the presence of organic biocides in very low concentrations together with photogenerated singlet oxygen. The printed layer of these films contains zinc phthalocyanine, which is activated by sunlight or visible light in the range of 600 to 700 nm. The triplet state of the present phthalocyanines is then "quenched" by the present oxygen upon this activation, leading to the formation of singlet oxygen. Singlet oxygen has antiviral and antimicrobial effects and can help reduce the number of viruses and bacteria on the surface where this film is applied
