Original Abstract
The effect of outer aggressive medium on building structures which causes the decrease of service life of buildings is generally known. The degradation mechanisms of the, in the time being, most used building material - concrete is known too. The building research has begun therefore to investigate with great intensity rehabilitation methods concerning failures of reinforced concrete and of buildings in general, already many years ago. The rehabilitation of degraded concrete or of the whole building needs mostly an integral system of rehabilitation materials, which enables the complete substitution of the original material and in the same time the protection of new materials. The Institute of Building Materials and Elements Technology at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology is engaged in development of new rehabilitation materials with utilization of classical and secondary raw materials already for more years. These rehabilitation materials are e.g. repair mortars, screeds, protective coatings etc. These materials have very good technical properties and high resistance against aggressive substances which cause the degradation of the original material (concrete). It is obvious from preceding research that there is possible to develop rehabilitation materials utilizing secondary raw materials. It is also obvious that the complete rehabilitation needs more different types of rehabilitation materials. Considering the present situation, in which the quantity of rehabilitated buildings from reinforced concrete rapidly increases and on the base of preceding research, the possibility arises to develop an integral system of rehabilitation, containing all necessary rehabilitation materials for complete rehabilitation and utilizing secondary raw materials. This system is able to be in competition with commercial products utilizing natural raw materials. The aim was therefore to develop a system in which every component fulfills its function in cooperation with the other component and where the upper layers secure the protection of layers having load bearing function and the lower layer secures the mechanical bond of the whole system with the rehabilitated building structure
