Original Abstract

Production of concrete or other composites based on Portland cement is based, among others, on familiarity with cement strength characteristics. These ones are tested in line with the EN 197-1 Standard on 2, 7, 28 and 90 days prism samples made of cement, aggregates of prescribed size and mineralogy, and water. One of ways to rationalise cement test is use of non-destructive methods; use of such method achieves reduction of sample number and gives rise to determination of cement strength under alternative time flow without want of more test samples. This paper describes testing methodology along with test result evaluation; also calibration correlations are available to calculate compression/tensile bending strength using ultrasonic pulse propagation speed. The set of 420 values for each of parameter under monitoring is adequate to specify appropriate calibration correlation. Defined correlation coefficients for given calibration are high enough (more than 0.9) so presented correlations are usable in practice.
