Original Abstract
The study "Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance Genes in Chicken Feces from Metagenomic Samples: A Comparative Study on Bioinformatics Tools" by Minoo Partovi Nasr et al. investigates the transmission of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) in chicken feces using metagenomic analysis and bioinformatics tools. DNA from Czech-raised chickens was sequenced via Illumina shotgun metagenomics. Quality control, adaptor trimming, and human genome decontamination were performed before analyzing ARGs with three tools: KARGA, KMA, and AMR-meta, using databases like MEGARes and PanRes. KARGA and KMA showed aligned results, identifying prevalent ARGs such as tet(W) and ant(6) genes, while AMR-meta had limited utility due to low likelihood rates. Relative abundance analysis revealed tetracycline resistance genes as most dominant. This comparative evaluation highlights the strengths of KARGA and KMA in ARG detection for microbiome studies.
