Original Abstract

Digitalization of the water network is a process which utilizes sensors (e.g. pressure, flow, water quality), data collection devices, real-time monitoring equipment and advanced software tools to gather, analyze and utilize data to optimize the performance of the network. It also enables to identify pressure recovery potential or quantify and localize leakage. Digitalization therefore requires stable, robust and operable power source. The introduction of devices that recover energy from high-potential sites increases the independence of these hydraulic systems from the grid and therefore, it presents another important step towards sustainability. Within these networks there are many different locations for energy recovery. This paper deals with design and shape optimization of two conceptually different pressure recovery devices, specifically axial turbines for the site where exploitable hydro-potential was found.
