Original Abstract
Y-steel sleepers are new components in railway superstructure in the Czech Republic. They are used in both tramway and railway lines. An important parameter of sleepers is their lateral resistance. It is assumed that Y-sleepers have comparable or even higher lateral resistance in ballast bed than convetional concrete sleepers. In addition the track skeleton with these steel sleepers should have higher lateral resistance. First of all Y-steel sleepers, then measurements of lateral sleeper resistance and an evolving mathematical model of Y-sleepers with baseplateless rail fastening are introduced in this article.
