Original Abstract
This paper is focused on shape and size of fracture process zone (FPZ) of quasi-britlle materials, and energy dissipated within this zone (local fracture energy) during fracture process. Fracture energy concept is investigated here using two non-linear approaches to modelling of quasi-brittle fracture: cohesive crack models and equivalent elastic crack models. Presented paper deals with the influence of specimen size and relative notch length on the value of local fracture energy and profile of FPZ. The research is conducted by means of numerical simulations of three-point bending tests of notched beams with three specimen sizes - width of specimens W = 80, 320, and 1280 mm. The simulations of fracture tests are performed by using ATENA finite element method software.
