Original Abstract

In this paper an ideal B of the group ring R = Z[G] generatet bz a special Kummel element is studied (G means a cyzlic group of order l - 1 and l and odd prime). The group index [R*: B]is expressed by means of the relative class number of the lth cyclotromic field (R* a subring of R). The ideal B is investigated also mod l. The connection wihh the (modified) Damjanenko and Benneton system of congruences is mentioned.
