Original Abstract
Laser-assisted spectrochemical analytical methods, as e.g. Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) or Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass/Optical Emission Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS/OES) allow fast, multielemental analysis in a broad variety of matrices with excellent spatial resolution . Such chemical mapping may give a two dimensional (2D) or three dimensional (3D) map of the monitored chemical elements. More specifically, recently these methods were utilized for large-area mapping of the elemental distribution in plant compartments for analysis of mineral microstructure with a high spatial resolution. LIBS can be modified also for the remote analysis, both using optical fibers or by focusing the laser line to distance objects and collecting the microplasma emission from the analyte by appropriate setup.
