Original Abstract
Reconstruction of a largely loaded foundation, wheeled by a horizontal planer in an engineering plant in the Czech republic was limited by an investor requirement to achieve extremely low differential settlement ( 0,01 mm/m) during machine (dead load till 750 kN) and worktable with work-piece (dead load 200 kN, live load 940 kN) movement. Foundation soil was quite unfavorable. A huge layer consisting of strongly eluvial clays and gneiss eluvium together with deeply weathered gneiss created it. Gneiss (R3) was not found till depth 13 m above ground surface. Considerable complication was high level of groundwater (-4,80 m above ground surface). Groundwater was extremely aggressive (CO2 against Fe and also against CaCO3). To solve the problem there were several options: - to increase stiffness of the reconstructed foundation, - grouting or jet grouting of foundation soil to the great depth, - fixing micropiles or large diameter piles into the bedrock. Analysis was carried out to find out the best solution. Combination of deep foundation created by fixed, large diameter piles and stiff flat basement interacting with foundation soil was chosen after omitting unsuitable options. The article describes foundation conditions, the design alternatives, results of alternative solutions and solution procedure leading into the final design. The chosen professional and very expensive solution proved good, whereas required extremely law deformations at loading were kept.
