In the present paper the influence of the mean stress on the fundamental fatigue characteristics of the steel 13 240 (C-Mn-Si) is demonstrated. The possibilities of the elimination of this influence by applying stress-strain parameters or by the use of characteristic sigma and epsilon values determined in the half of the fatigue life are shown.
