Original Abstract
The paper studies the changes of temperature, velocity and composition distribution with the distance from the arc heater output. The discussed experiments were carried out on the output of the hybrid plasma torch stabilised by water wall and argon flow. The input data of the method are parameters of plasma jet just at the output of the arc generator (temperature distribution measured by spectroscopy, the total flow rate of argon and the electrical power of the generator). The flow rate of water vapour and the whole output momentum can be calculated using energy balance equation and continuity equation. Another measurement is made far from the arc heater output. Because of rather different conditions, different measuring methods must be chosen (thermocouples, dynamic pressure cooled sensor). The measured temperature must be corrected. Far from the output of the arc heater the original mixture of argon and water vapour is mixed with surrounding air and the momentum decreases. The results obtained from both investigations enable to evaluate the ratio of water vapour and argon, the momentum loss and the Prandtl number (~0,7) in the total flow rate of mixture of air, water vapour and argon along the free jet of hot gas mixture.
