Original Abstract
Wood is a natural material often used in civil engineering. Unluckily timber constructions can be damaged or their lifetime period reduced due to its biological degradation processes. So it is not unusual to apply some protective methods e. g. chemical infusions of lumbers. Physical and mechanical characteristics are quite essential especially for designers. This article looks at the monitoring of capillary suction of spruce commonly used for building structures and components for both treated and untreated spruce samples. The treated spruce is treated against biological decay and rots (using industrially-made pressure impregnation method). Specimens represented the material which was studied in room, hot and cold conditions with different temperatures and relative humidity. Each series of experiments ran for approximately one week and allowed the determination of the water absorption coefficient Ww and also comparison of collected values. Brief explanations of anatomic features of the wood are included.
