Brick vaults or vault strips can be found in many of the buildings still in use in civil engineering. As a result of adaptations, building alterations, changes in use and the resulting changes in load over the centuries, structural failures in the vaults in the form of cracks are very common. Other factors contributing to the development of vault failures may be long-term changes in the foundations or the spacing of vertical load-bearing elements at the level of the footings of the vaults.

Due to the specific application of the new approach and its technological process, it is possible to repair existing listed buildings and structures in a way that does not affect the appearance of the building. A wall can be constructed above the arch itself and, if the technological procedure is followed, there is no need to demolish the wall and rebuild it after the arch has been modified. The primary focus is on buildings with structural damage, for example those built 250 years ago or earlier. The principle of the technology is to drill a hole in the arch, then insert a steel cable and finish by pouring concrete.
