Aeroacoustics

Basic description of acoustic waves in gases, decibel scale, levels of acoustic pressure, intensity and power, acoustics spectrum. Human ear and mechanism of hearing. Normalisation and hygienic requirements for noise levels. Noise level produced by boundary layer and high speed jet. Noise level produced by aircraft, noise of jet engine, propeller and supersonic bang. Noise insulations and dumpers, dumpers of vibrations.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain basic knowledge on noise and its effect on human body and calculation of noise characteristics and noise level.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of mathematics, differential and integral calculus, ordinary and partial differential equations. Basics of physics and mechanics, acoustics recomended but not limited condition.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Participation in lectures is obligatory. Awarding a graded course-unit credit is conditioned by the attendance at lectures, at least 10 of 13. The graded course unit credit is given on the basis of the test of 6 questions.

Students will gain basic knowledge on noise generation, possibilities of noise measurements and protection against noise.
