Figural Drawing

The course is a follow up to "Draving of Head". The course develops the ability to express their own visual experience, visions and ideas. It starts from the study of basic technical and natural shapes; it studies their architecture, relationships, proportions and details. The course focuses on drawing the human head and figure.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course enables students to extend their basic knowledge of drawing. Practising drawing according to the model is the base for acquiring and mastering skills and basic knowledge needed for building-up the mass and character of body in the surface.

Prerequisites

The knowledge of the perspective and its practical use in the course of drawing construction in the surface /with the emphasize to proportion/ and extend experience with still-life drawing, industrial products and drawing of the head using a plaster bust is expected as well as the expression of mass and basic characters of a model. Idiomatic handwriting and the sense of expressing short cuts is the advantage.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: Attendance at exercises, meeting assigned projects deadlines.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on tasks (drawings). In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The aim is to enhance students` knowledge of drawing as the basic type of visual record. Practical exercises focus on building-up the mass in the surface, the character and proportion of objects to develop students` creativity.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance at education is controlled. Missed lessons are compensated upon the agreement with a lecturer or a make-up project is assigned. The absence from education is excused only due to serious reasons such as illness. Unexcused absence may threaten awarding the graded course-unit credit. In case the absence is greater than 50% /including excused lessons/, graded course-unit credit may not be awarded.
