Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course of Electrotechnics enables students to get basic knowledge of the theory of electric and magnetic circuits, necessary for understanding electronic circuits and principles of activity of electric machines and the most frequently used circuits of performance electronics. The students will acquire practical skills in laboratory exercises.

Prerequisites

Basic electric and magnetic quantities (electric charge and electric current, vectors of electromagnetic field, integral quantities - electric voltage, magnetic voltage, electric induction flux, magnetic induction flux). Fundamentals of electromagnetism (Coulomb’s law, Biot-Savart’s law, Faraday’s law, Amper’s law). Electric and magnetic properties of matters.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for granting a graded course-unit credit: 100% participation at exercises and handing over the protocols from laboratory exercises approved by the teacher. The resulting evaluation is set by point assessment according to the Study and Examination Rules of the Technical University. The students get points from: 1. Written test of presented topics (1st – 5th topic, 0-25 points. 2. Written test of all the presented topics (0 – 25 points). 3. Activity and working out calculation assignments, 0 – 25 points. 4. Activity and working out laboratory assignments, 0-25 points.

Aims

The aim of the course of Electrotechnics is to make students acquainted with the theory of electric and magnetic circuits. The task of the subject is to acquire basic knowledge and skills needed for other following subjects creating the professional profile of a graduate.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The controlled lesson is an exercise. There is controlled activity and preparation for exercises and working out assignments. Missed lessons must be compensated with another group or – in exceptional cases – in compensatory lessons designed for this purpose and held in the course of the credit week.
