Course detail

Technology III

FSI-6T3Acad. year: 2010/2011

The first part of the subject contains all necessary information about un-conventional technologies from the areas of sheet metal forming, forging, cold forming and also from the area of hot forming of solid materials.
The second and third parts of subject deal with the following areas of material handling:
Material handling in industrial company. Techniques and methods of material handling design. Material handling devices. Stores and equipment for stores. Material handling in foundries, forges and machine shops. Automation in material handling and automation of the material handling design. Organization and realization of material handling projects. Economic evaluation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Attending the lectures and excercises the students will acquire knowledge of all unconventional manufacturing technologies applied in engineering plants for sheet metal forming, bulk forming and forging processes. They will be acquainted with the methodology of processes parameters and deformation forces calculations. Students will be made familiar with the theoretical foundations necessary for working out engineering projects (MM method), preparatory project evaluation, procedure and steps of a project elaboration by MM, manipulation means for inside/outside manipulation technique. Having elaborated an assigned project, the students will master designer's skills to use appropriate computational methods.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of manufacturing technology, knowledge of production machines and equipment used, as well as knowledge of manufacturing mechanization.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The exam has the following parts: In the first part the student counts and solves an example from the area of representative models of the producing efficiency and an example of the material store designing. The second part is a theoretical question from different parts of the technology covered by the subject.

Aims

The course makes students familiar with un-conventional manufacturing technologies which are used in the industry. The second part of the course addresses all problems, connected with material handling in different areas of forming, forging and welding plants and in the foundry as well.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lectures is checked. The lecture is different each week, that is why an absence may be compensated for in the same week only. Only one lecture may be missed without penalty.
