Topic and Narrative in Contemporary Visual Culture - summer

FaVU-3TEVY-LAcad. year: 2010/2011

The course focuses on practical outputs reflecting visual culture which needs to be analysed for several reasons. This area has grown to a hitherto unprecedented extent since the onset of modernity and has been further expanding into other forms of communication (text, spoken word "face to face," mimics, etc). In the earlier times, the spectator could encounter the visual culture product (image or visual sign) only at certain privileged places and at expectional moments (sermon, corronation, celebration, market, etc). Today, images are available everywhere and all the time and their impact cannot be avoided. Images also have a great manipulative power and they are easily mistaken with reality (unlike texts). It is because of this that this area needs to be critically reflected and diverse image streatagems and subliminal utterances must be interpreted.
