Design of Production Systems

This course is concerned with projection of production systems with regards to production systems theory and application. It follows world trends of production systems development.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn a systematic and methodical approach to production systems designing
for given technology, economics and safety and up-to date trends and methods.
They will also learn to work independently when elaborating their own work at robot work
place for given technology design.

Prerequisites

Student should have basic knowledge of designing of production machines
and production technologies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Condition for a course-unit credit awarding:
1. 100 % attendance at seminars (in special cases it is possible to compensate by assigning
special home work).
2. Checking activity of students on the term project.
3. Final course examination includes the following parts:
1) Evaluation of the project.
2) Evaluation of knowledge (written and oral part).

Aims

This subject provides students with knowledge about up-to-date trends of designing and application of production systems for given technology and up-to-date technologies, application of flexible automation with robots, basic knowledge of economics, safety and laws regarding production systems.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Checking knowledge at seminars and consultation of term project.
Attendance will be checked ar seminars.

Syllabus

1. Trends of production systems with robots development and application
in the world and Czech Republic.
2. Investments and factory development. Targets of production investments
in the factory. Main investments criteria. Feasibility study.
3. Production systems: Flexible production module, Flexible production cell,
Flexible production line, Production integration, Hard line, Flexible production system,
Flexible production factory etc.
4. Application of production machines and systems according to product
series and a number of variants.
Making an option of production machines, robots, manipulators, and equipment for
production systems.
5. Procedure of production systems designing.
6. Classification, group technology, complex part.
7. Analysis of manipulation operations. Using of symbols.
8.-11. Robot work-place design for selected up-to-date technologies (forming, welding,
machines operating, assembly, palleting, testing, grinding, cutting by Laser,
water beam, plasma etc.).
12. Basic economic aspect of production systems application.
13. Basic safety of production systems application.
