Diploma Project - Module M1

A diploma project is the completion of the student's creative work in the master degree study program. The diploma project should prove the student' s ability to assert himself in practice and to obtain, after a certain time, the authorisation granted by the Czech Chamber of Architects. It covers thematically the module Urban architecture.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

He or she proves the ability to design constructions of any type, as employee of a design office.

Prerequisites

The studio work is the final completion of study in the master degree study programme.
To begin work on dissertation project, the student must have finished master degree studies and successfully passed state exams.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The dissertation work is evaluated by five member commission formed from specialists to meet requirements form Study and examination rules of VUT and to be ready to assess quality of the work and its defence.

Aims

Diploma work has to prove the skill of student to practically apply his knowledge and skills gained during bachelor´s studies, graduate studies and practice on socially important assignment.
The aim of work on dissertation project is to lead students to:
 understanding city organism, its evolution, potential and current problems
 managing wide range approach to solving real tasks involving city creating and architectonic constructional structure criterions
 managing strategy and methods of constructional intervention in context of stress of exposed topographic situation and various typologies of current constructional structure
 abilities to define functional content of objects on the base of municipality needs analysis
 ability to find mutual relation of function, construction and expressional means

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The dissertation work is an individual work of students and therefore there is no need to use continuous checks. It is assumed that it is their interest to consult it maximally with work leader and other specialists from school and practice.
