Development and coordination of technical infrastructure

The subject provides a comprehensive idea of the relationships of urbanised areas, technical infrastructure and transport. The lectures cover the most recent techniques of utility networks development, traffic engineering, and their application to planning documents. The aim is to impart the knowledge of new trends in the development of technical infrastructure and transport in urbanised areas.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After having completed the course in !Development and co-ordination of utility facilities", the doctorand will have the knowledge needed for co-ordinating utility facilities in an urbanised area, and will orientate himself in the problems of utility networks to be solved in development planning documents

Prerequisites

The student is expected to know the basic rules of design and co-ordination of utility facilities, relating to development planning documents. The development and co-ordination of utility facilities requires synoptic knowledge of urban and regional development.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Admission to examination is conditioned by participation in consultations, working out and submission of a seminar assignment, in required extent, quality and term. The examination consists of two parts - oral exam of theoretical knowledge, and graphic exam of practical incorporation of utility facilities into development planning documents.

Aims

Gaining extensive knowledge of new methods of designing utility facilities, in co-ordination with development planning documents for urbanised areas.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Working out of a seminar assignemt, attendence of consultations and lectures according to the study program. The form of making up for missed consultations and lectures depends on indivudual assignment.

- Planning, design and management of utility and transpot facilities in urbanised areas.
- Relationships of urban infrastructure, utility facilities and transport infrastructure.
- Utility networks, their significance, classification and special features.
- Concepts for utility networks and their application to development planning documents.
- Design, regeneration and operation of utility networks in towns and villages.
- New techniques of pipelaying in urban areas, trenchless technologies.
- Significance of using common routes (utilidors, utility galleries and channels) in
urbanised areas.
- Excursions and visits to utilidors in the historic center and in the residential estates
of the City of Brno.
- Relation of utility facilities to urban green spaces, using rain water in the interiors
of urban centers.
- Co-ordination and regulation of traffic in towns.
- Designing transport networks in development planning documents.
- Land use limits and utility factors limiting land use.
- Legislation and utility facilities (new Acts, prescriptions and ordinances concerning
utility facilities).
