Urbanism IV - Creating Urban and Landscape Environment

The subject "Formation of urban and landscape environment" resumes the preceding basic subjects covering primarily the functional relationships at the level of the individual urban elements, and the urban development concept. The subject deals with the interpretation and formation of the urban and rural environment. Analysed are in detail the historical principles of spatial organisation and their applicability to the modern city (composition, problems of new forms, etc.). The second part of classes and tutorials is devoted to the fundamentals of garden design and to the influence of historic development on today's design. The subject covers also the natural environment of settlements and the rehabilitation and protection of landscape.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Detailed knowledge of contemporary urban planning problems and prospective urban development trends.

Prerequisites

Theoretical and practical knowledge of problems and ability to solve them, needed for architectural design activity.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit shall be given in case of final study turn in, passing of exam work of appropriate quality and in given term. The exam is written and it is necessary to gain at least half of points. The classification shall involve also passing two control tests. In case of fulfilling previous conditions the result of control tests, final study including exam work and final test, shall be considered in the scope of subject classification in ratio 10% : 50% : 40%.

Landscape, her development and meaning in architectural and urban design proposal

Influence historical development garden art and molding landscapes on contemporary production
Municipal park, historical development and fundamentals
Bases garden and landscaping production, compositional principles
Natural environment seats, territorial systems ecological steadiness
Rehabilitation and landscape conservation

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Concept of each task and final study turn in. Two control tests verify knowledge of lectured themes. 80% of practice teaching is mandatory, 20% is not necessary to substitute.
