Physical and engineering pumps operation principles and their classification in short. The subject is focused on water supply, sludge and dosing pumps, especially in terms of economic efficiency of the whole system design and planning of the pumping station system. Pumping stations – structure and mechanical engineering part (including ancillary equipment such as escape stations), basic information on systems control and regulation with focus on pumps with variable speed of the engine. A part of the engineering design is water hammer protection. Other pumping stations, primarily those concerning sanitary installations (i.e. water supply and sewerage) in buildings are also mentioned. Students are acquainted with design procedure of head and vacuum sewerage system.
