Aims

This graduate course aims at providing students with introduction to the field of fiber reinforced composites from the materials chemistry perspective, focusing on syntheses of main thermoset resins, production technologies of the most frequent fibers and some basics of composite manufacturing. Second part comprises of an introduction to mechanism of stress transfer, lamina micromechanics and macromechanics of layered laminates. Based on the current state-of-the-art, structure-property relationships in particulate composites are discussed as well as basic governing principles of reinforcing mechanisms in nano-composites.
