Learning outcomes of the course unit

Extent of the subject is sufficiant for learning of the basic knowledge only giving students essential understanding and orientation in metallic materials problematics. It helps to rationalize solutions of technical problems. Lectures follows up indirectly the subject "Structure and properties of inorganic materials I" where topics of metallic materials were omitted completely or were discussed marginally only.

Prerequisites

physics and chemistry of solid state, thermodynamics

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The examination is oral with a period of 30 minutes for preparation. There is evaluated the knowledge of theoretical as well as practical applications of metallic materials science and the ability to choose of reasonable material for model use and orientation in contemporary trends. The volume of the knowledge required is similar to that of of lectures content.

Aims

The main aim of the subject is understanding of the bases and applications of the most important common physical, physically-metallurgical and physically-chemical rules, laws and technologies of metallic materials. Also it helps to give an orientation for materials chemist in problems of correct application of metallic materials in technical practice.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students of combined (distant) form of study are obliged to contact the garant within first week of semester. Then the individual plan of app. 3-4 consultation (following the self-study of proper literature) will be established.
