Learning outcomes of the course unit

Completing the course students acquire the complex knowledge of interpreting spectra related to the structural organic analysis. The knowledge acquired enables to work both in research and practice of bioorganic and pharmaceutical chemistry, control laboratories and state administration authorities.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of Organic chemistry I+II, Analytical chemistry II, practice from instrumental analytical chemistry.

Course curriculum

1. Ultraviolet spectroscopy. 2. Infrared spectroscopy. 3. Fundamentals of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 4. 1D NMR 1H spectroscopy. 5. 1D NMR 13C spectroscopy. 6. Methods of 2D NMR spectroscopy. 7. NMR spectra of selected groups of organic compounds. 8. Fundamentals of mass spectrometry. 9. Mass spectra of selected groups of organic compounds. 10. Principles of structural organic analysis. 11-13. Practical solution of organic structural analysis based on spectra interpretation.

Aims

Acquirement of physical backgrounds of structural analytical methods. Ability to interpret experimental spectra with regard to structure elucidation of organic compounds.
