Information Management and Systems Strategy

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with the basic methods used for planning simple models, structure modelling and the behaviour of individual parts of systems and safety of selected parts. They will master the basic terminology of the system conception of electronic modelling.
Critically analyse the impact of a particular technology on the use of information in organisations.
Explain and interpret barriers to, and promoters of, effective information use.
Evaluate the potential strategic implications of IS for organisations operating in conditions.

Prerequisites

Work with graphs and matrices, mathematical expression of relationships, logical functions, computer literacy, a grasp of basic economic categories.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Elaboration of seminar work on PC and the presentation of the outcome will be continuously checked throughout the semester in every seminar. Participation of the student in the seminars will be evaluated (with 40 points at maximum), as well as the successful completion of the assign task and its presentation (60 points at maximum). The minimum number of points necessary for awarding the course-unit credit is 70.If the student achieves less than 70 points, he/she will be assigned additional task to complete and present. It can be evaluated with 50 points at maximum. For being awarded the course-unit credit, it is essential to achieve 70 points at minimum for all tasks.Requirements for the examination: every student presents their completes seminar work as set and in the oral exam will show other possible solutions to the completed seminar work. Successful completion of the course is conditional

Aims

The objective of the course is for students to master basic terminology in the new area of ICT, methodology applied when planning selected information and communication systems. Students will be able to make simple, economically balanced, selected models of ICT for companies in the Czech Republic.
To consider the relationship between information systems strategy and business strategy.
To identify the strategic concerns for information systems development in the digital age.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Control of results of independent work on the assigned tasks. In case of excused absence from seminars, an additional task is set and evaluated according to the criteria for awarding course-credit units.
