Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire the basic terminology and language skills necessary for communication in various situations in business and management, especially regarding company organization , production process, trading, presentations and financial matters. They will be made familiar with the terminology necessary for work in IT and with professional IT materials.

Knowledge of English at intermediale level.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The assessment consists of a written test and final exam. 75% attendance and active participation at classes is required.

1. Modal verbs. Differences between British and American English.
2. Giving presentations. Technical text.
3. Future arrangements and intentions. Present Continuous and 'going to'. Collocations.
4. Recruitment and selection. Business communication. Pay, money and banking.
5. Temporal clauses. 1st and 2nd Conditionals. Writing e-mails.
6. Technical text. Phrasal verbs.
7. Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous. Job descriptions.
8. Technical text. Describing a process. Interviewing techniques.
9. 3rd Conditional. Confusing words.
10. Business correspondence. 'Should' + perfect infinitive.
11. Reported speech. Collocations.
12. Social responses. Technical text.
13. Semester test.

Aims

Development of all language skills, consolidation and deepening of knowledge of grammatical structures, and increase in vocabulary with special emphasis on language needed at work in the area of management and IT, knowledge of general English at CEF B1 level.
