Course detail

Operational and System Analysis 2

FP-Rosa2KAcad. year: 2011/2012

The course focuses on modelling of poorly structured decision-making problems of a strategic character. The attention is paid to classical decision-making charts and criteria applicable under the conditions of indeterminacy and uncertainty. Also dealt with are the basic principles of models based on the artificial intelligence principle as well as with practical creation of an inference network of expert system supporting the decision-making process in the area of diagnostic management situations. Students will be made familiar with the basic principles of the decision-making model creation using a neural network and genetic algorithms.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The main objective of the course is to make students familiar with the basic methods of the creation of models intended as a support to decision-making process in unclear and vague situations. Students will be able to apply fundamental principles of decision-making charts to decisions of particular management problems in a company. Based on the knowledge of basic principles of expert systems, the students will critically analyse selected decision-making problem and will propose an inference network for its solution. They will also be able to critically evaluate the suitability of other artificial intelligence tools for the strategic decision-making conditions as well as to apply these tools in non-standard situations.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of fundamentals of organisation and corporate management functions. Knowledge of solution of deterministic decision-making problems at the level of fundamentals of operational analysis.

Co-requisites

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for credit: Knowledge of taught topics and handling of assignment, the ability of practical application of presented methods.
