The subject provides basic knowledge from the field of sports medicine, i.e. sports physiology, and explains health problems in connection with the pursuit of movement activities.

The subject provides the students with knowledge about first aid and the causes, prevention and pre-medical examination of injuries in sport.

Course curriculum

- Introduction to physical training medicine (conception, contents, specialization, relationship to other fields of specialization).
- Carrying out evaluations in physical education and sport (preventive care, health care at sporting events).
- The anthropology of sport (somatotype, biological age, prediction of height).
- Methodology of stress examinations in sports medicine.
- Importance of movement activities for the health of a person.
- Cardiological issues in the sporting population.
- Sports orthopaedics and traumatology.
- First aid, resuscitation, bandaging technique.
- Injury rehabilitation in sports medicine.
- The use of performance-enhancing drugs, and other pharmacological issues in sports.
- Diet, dietary supplements and drinking regime.
- Sporting activities in relation to different ages and genders.
- Health issues involved with indoor and outdoor sports.

- In the practical lessons, material covered in the lectured topics will be practised, with a focus on the key areas of the given topic. Suggestions for self-study; preparation for the final exam.

Aims

The aim of the subject is to understand the importance of this specific field of specialization, which is very closely linked to people and movement, and to learn to use the knowledge gained from this field in practice (advisory and consultation activities). The subject provides the students with knowledge about first aid and the causes, prevention and pre-medical examination of injuries in sport.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The subject is divided into lectures and practical lessons. Both the lectures and seminars are compulsory. The subject will be concluded by a written examination (test). Any absence must be duly excused and substituted for after agreement with the head of the subject.
