Practical exercises in information networks

The subject is oriented to practical applications of passive and active nework components. Gives an overview of connector and cable types used in computer networks and an introduction to the prblematics of connectoring. The second part of the subject is oriented to basic types of active network components including installation and configuration of common network interfaces, hubs, switches, routers and firewalls. The last part is focused on network services, especially on the installation and configuration of FTP and Web servers, unsecure and secure remote access and capture and analysis of network traffic.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

With completion of the subject students acquire basic overview about passive and active network elements and about thier advantages and disadvantages. They also acquire practical experience incuding connectoring network cables, installation and configuration of network interfaces, components and basic network servceis.

The knowledge and skills on the level secondary school level are required.

Aims

The aim of the subject is to provide basic introduction to problematics of information networks. The subject is oriented to practical exercises about using passive and active network elements and installation and configuration of network interfaces, active network components and network services.
