Analogue electronic circuits

Theoretical principles of analysis and synthesis of analog electronic circuits: classification of electronic circuits and circuit elements, modelling of real circuit elements, circuit stability, feedback and its utilization. Basic analog electronic circuits and their properties: circuits with operational amplifiers, electrical filters, basic transistor stages and connections, amplifiers, rectifiers, stabilizers, converters, shaping networks, multipliers, mixers, modulators, demodulators, oscillators. Application of MATLAB, SNAP and PSPICE in computer-aided analysis of electronic circuits. Measurements of typical electronic circuits.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students become familiar with basic principles of analog electronic circuits, utilization of PC for their analysis, and with practical measurements of typical electronic circuits.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the secondary school level is requested.
Passing seminar Practical electronics.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Performance of all laboratory measurements and passing their reports.
Active participation on all computer trainings.
Check test within the framework of a numerical part of lectures.
Written form of final semestral exam.

Course curriculum

1. Electronic circuits - basic concepts and classification.
2. Electronic circuit elements - two-pole and multi-pole elements, linear and nonlinear two-ports.
3. Real circuit elements modeling - semiconductor diode, bipolar and field-effect transistors, operational amplifier, characteristics approximation.
4. Electronic circuit as a linear dynamical system - principles of stability and feedback theories.
5. Circuits with operational amplifiers, basic types and properties of operational amplifiers, voltage and current amplifiers, converters.
6. Electrical filters - filters principles and their applications, passive and active filters, filters with synthetic elements.
7. Basic transistor stages - common-emitter (CE), common-collector (CC) and common-base (CB) connections, frequency properties of the basic stages.
8. Transistor circuits - current sources, current mirrors, Darlington circuit, casdade connection of basic stages, differential amplifier.
9. Amplifiers basic classification and properties, amplifiers classes, wideband and narrowband (tuned) amplifiers.
10. Power amplifiers low-frequency and high-frequency, amplifiers of special classes.
11. Power supplies - types of rectifiers, stabilizers, voltage converters.
12. Basic types of signal converters - shaping networks, multipliers, modulators, demodulators, mixers.
13. Signal generators - oscillators with negative differential resistance, LC oscillators, crystal oscillators, RC oscillators, variable-frequency oscillators.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with basic principles of analog electronic circuits, to show PC utilization for their analysis and to verify their properties by practical measurements of typical electronic circuits.

Introductory information, mathematical model of a circuit and its solution by the MATLAB program.
Symbolical circuits analysis by the SNAP program.
Basic introduction to the PSPICE program, verification of basic circuit theorems.
DC and AC analysis of electrical circuits, real OA properties, BJT.
Time analysis, models of basic elements, simulation of selected analog circuits.
