Multimedia Data in Biomedicine

Elements of acoustic and visual perception. Image and acoustic signals, objective and subjective quality. Special methods of multimedia signal processing: Acquisiton of image and audio-video data and their processing, image and video analysis. Standards of lossless and lossy compression of image, audio and video data. Formats of signal, image and video files. Transmition, archiving and protection of multimedia data.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic knowledge on multimedia data characteristics, perception, processing, transmission and archiving, also with respect to Internet utilisation

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the secondary school level is required. and knowledge of digital signal processing

1. Multimedial signals and data, definitions and properties
2. Theory of multidimensional signals and systems - original domain
3. Theory of multidimensional signals and systems - frequency domain
4. Multidimensional unitary transforms and their properties
5. Models of psychophysiology of human sight and hearing
6. Enhancement of images - contrast and colour transforms, geometrical transforms
7.Enhancement of images - sharpening and noise reduction, principles of image restoration
8. Basics of image analysis - segmentation, texture analysis
9. Basics of image analysis - object recognition, stereoanalysis, motion analysis
10. Particularities of acoustic signal processing
11. Principles of multimedial data compression
12. Lossles and lossy methods of image and video data compression, properties and parameters
13. Lossles and lossy methods of acoustic data compression, properties and parameters
