Course detail

Information and Control Systems in Power Engineering

FEKT-NIRSAcad. year: 2011/2012

The course is focused on the use of information and control systems in power system and related technologies. Students will be acquainting with basic terminology, communication equipment, data security issues, the functioning of computer networks, information systems concepts and architectures. During study they will introduced with the specific systems used in practice, such as nuclear power plant Temelin. During laboratories students work with real control system and learn how to program a simple application on level of system parameterisation, linking the PLC to create a basic computer and SCADA applications.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic principles and applications of information and communication technologies in a wide of range concrete implementation in power stations, control dispatchings and other power energy units. Use of computer technology and modern ICT is inevitable process of modernisation of current energetic units and it is commonplace in a new systems. Students should have knowing about this conceptions and its range of use in a practice. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic principles and applications of ICT technology and control systems in energetics, in instance in power plants, switching stations and dispatchings. Students obtain overview about modern approaches to control of complex power systems and they will be able to work with a simple control systems, and they will be able to programme it by oneself.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
