Monitoring and Data Analysis in Motorsport

FSI-0MAAcad. year: 2011/2012

The course "Monitoring and data analysis in motorsports" familiarises students with the procedures and methods used for experimental solution of tasks given in the field of motorsport. It explains basic methods of measuring mechanical quantities and defines the structure of the measuring and control chain. The course deals with the analysis of analog and digital signals in the time and the frequency domain too. A part of the course is also devoted to the measurement of kinematic quantities, forces, torques, pressure and noise. It defines the basic concepts and categories of safety and technical diagnostics.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will have an overview of contemporary possibilities of experimental detection of some mechanical quantities needed for an assessment of failure-free operation of machines and their parts. They will be provided with fundamental practical knowledge of and experience with these problems. They will be able to formulate real requests for these activities and will have a grasp of evaluation and interpretation of the results.

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge from area of part and mechanism of machines.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on the following conditions: - active participation in the seminars, - good results of elaborated laboratory exercises, - solution of additional tasks in case of longer excusable absence, - good results in closing test.

Aims

Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of and experience with contemporary methods intended for experimental solution of problems especially from the area of motorsport.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at practicals is required. One absence can be compensated for by attending a seminar with another study group in the same week, or by elaboration of substitute tasks. Longer absence may be compensated for by special tasks according to instructions of the tutor.
