Modelling I

This subject supports the development of abilities to express one´s visual experience, concepts and ideas. It leads to acquiring the sense for matter, shape, estimation of dimensions, contents, distances and it gives information about the craftsmanship basis for the moulding practice. The course is focused on the human head modelling.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students acquire the basic knowledges about modeling. An excercise of still-life modeling is the base for sklill mastering and acquiring of basic knowledges for building-up the mass and character of objects in the space.

Prerequisites

The presumption is elementary knowledges about perspective and experiences with the drawing of still-life composed of basic geometric objects with the uniform surface in perspective view by the model. Practise experiences with construction of abstract area composition and another experinces in the area creation are welcome.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: Attendance at exercises, meeting assigned projects deadlines.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on tasks. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The assigment of this subject is to familiarize students with modeling, it means with the basic type of visual and space entry. Practical excercises accent building-up the volume with the emphasis to the proportions and the character of objects. The aim is a development of student creative potential.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance in education is controlled. Student has to be present in scheduled hours in the schoolroom, work on given projects and wait for consultation, unless a lecturer gives any other individual plan. The excuse of absence is possible only due similar reasons as by work law, e.g. illness. Unexcused absence can lead to give no accreditation. When total absence is greater than 50% (including excused absence), projects may not be accepted for impossibility of project solving reasons, and compensatory assigning is not possible.
