Physical & chemical principles of the production of metallic materials, thermodynamic activity and its application in metallurgical calculations, thermodynamic equilibrium, dependence of the equilibrium constant on temperature. Gases, carbon and sulphur in ferrous alloys. Basic metallurgical reactions taking place in the production of ferrous alloys. Production of steel in oxygen converters and arc furnaces, secondary metallurgy. Production of high-alloy and special ferrous alloys. Casting ferrous alloys, continuous casting and the effect of secondary oxidation on metallurgical quality. Effect of metallurgy on steel properties, obtainable contents of undesirable elements, morphology and distribution of inclusions as functions of oxygen activity in steel. Segregation and metallurgical possibilities of affecting them. Production and properties of cast irons. Production and properties of non-ferrous metals.
