Machining of cast materials

FSI-POLAcad. year: 2011/2012

The subject is devoted to the improvement of student’s knowledge in the field of machining of cast materials.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

5

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire knowledge of qualified technological process selection, including foundry technology. They will be able to select proper clamping of workpieces, production (cutting) conditions, cutting tools and materials, do workpiece checks, calculate production times and production costs.

Prerequisites

Knowledge obtained in the course of previous study, namely in the fields of theory and technology of machining, material science, metrology, mathematics, physics, structures and properties of cast materials.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having worked out the assigned by the teacher. An excused absence of 10% is allowed. In case of longer absence, special work is arranged in accordance with valid BUT regulations. Examination consists of a written and an oral part. The written part is focused on the solution of a technological problem. The assessment reflects student’s professional skills. The oral part tests student's knowledge of a topic selected randomly from the concerned areas to assess the depth of understanding.
